The state of Texas has a set of laws called the Texas Animal Cruelty Laws that prohibits the cruel treatment of animals, defined as:

  • Torturing an animal

  • Failing to provide food, care or shelter

  • Abandoning an animal

  • Transporting or confining an animal in a cruel manner

  • Killing, seriously injuring or poisoning an animal

  • Causing an animal to fight with another

  • Using a live animal as a lure in a dog race

  • Tripping a horse

  • Injuring an animal belonging to another person

  • Seriously overworking an animal

In the city of Nacogdoches:

  • Pets must be vaccinated for rabies at 4 months.

  • Pets must be on a leash in all public places.

  • Pets must have valid city identification tags

  • Pets under 4 months cannot enter the dog park.

  • Owners are liable for damage or injury inflicted by pets.

  • And remember to scoop their poop!

The city dog park is available for all citizens of Nacogdoches and it is a great place to let your dog out to run and play.
